Virgin Island Sailling School operates from November 1st through July 31st from our base in St. Thomas, U. S. Virgin Islands.

We are ASA certified to teach courses 101 – 106 and 114. We are also certified to train and evaluate instructors through levels listed. These courses range in complexity and skill: Basic Keelboat (101) Basic Coastal Cruising (103) Bareboat Charter Standard (104) Coastal Navigation (105) Advanced Coastal Cruising (106) BBC Multihull (114) You will live and learn aboard our large cruising catamaran which will be your transportation, classroom and home.

Beginning upon your arrival Saturday afternoon, lessons are on provisioning (actually giving the captian your shopping list) and location of all safety equipment. The follow morning (Sunday) we set sail through both the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, spending the next five days on our floating classroom covering safety (both equipment and procedures), sailboat handling, proper use and maintenance of boat systems such as electronics, plumbing and diesel engine, as well as basic live aboard considerations.

Lessons are first taught from a combination of textbooks (included in your fee) and immediate practice of what you have learned. Classes run about 6 hours each day on average. By day three, it is typical that your Capt/Instructor has turned 95% of boat operations over to you an your fellow students.

Late afternoons and evenings are your time for watersports, exploring, or just relaxing.

Friday at 1pm is our return to port where it all started.

Our Price is includes class material, and training on either a J27 monohull or 47 ft catamaran.
